Young Friends

A cherished black and white photo of my daughter Gwen and her friend Hessie sits at the easel among the paints and brushes and turpentine. At first it felt counterintuitive for an artist to paint his workspace — tubes and dollops of paint, old brushes sitting at rest. But now I see it perfectly captures that moment most mornings before I get to work.
